Milan, Italy - DREAM 2.0 at Expo

Large participation in the presentation of DREAM (Disease Relief through Excellent and Advanced Means) 2.0, the program of the Community of Sant'Egidio that dreams an Africa healed with the same opportunities of excellence of which are benefiting in the rest of the world, at Milan Expo. 

Selected among the ten winners of the competition "Energy, Art and Sustainability for Africa" promoted by ENI, DREAM is present at Expo for a week, from 22nd to 29th October.
Quality health care and renewable energy in Africa. Combating diseases such as AIDS and malnutrition.

Rutana, Burundi - Among the difficulties, to continue to pray for peace ...

Burundi is going through a difficult phase in its history: after the elections the polarization and violence are beyond the danger level and in Bujumbura dozens of murders have unfortunately recorded.

Calais, France - Sant'Egidio visit the "jungle"

A representative of the French communities of Sant'Egidio visited the so-called "jungle" of Calais, the slum near the Channel Tunnel where thousands of emigrants or refugees have settled, while they are trying to reach England. 

Faced with the increasing difficulties to access the Eurotunnel more and more migrants end up building precarious settlements in an open space close to the sea, particularly exposed to bad weather. There are those who live there for months, shops have sprung up, as well as churches and mosques. The population, in the past coming especially from Africa, today counts an increasing component of Syrians and Iraqis.

Bouaké, Ivory Coast - School, and school of peace ...

"I like to go to school", say children of Bouaké, Ivory Coast, like all the other children that the Community of Sant'Egidio gathers in its School of Peace. 

To defend the right of children to education, to involve the younger generations in a beautiful and exciting process of education for peace and coexistence.
The recent delivery of school kits in Abidjan and elsewhere (see the website are a sign of the commitment of Sant'Egidio in Ivory Coast: the Community works with the poor for the construction of a more cohesive socuety in the country, for a lasting peace in this time of elections (to vote next 25th) and in the future.

The Community of Sant'Egidio took part in "Juntos por Mexico", "Together for Mexico", which was held from October 16th to 18th in Puebla, collecting thousands of participants from 60 movements active in the large Central American country on the issues of human rights, defense of life, human development, family, peace.

Antwerp, Belgium - ... for a society on the way to reconciliation

In Antwerp, on October 10th, in the framework of the World Day against the death penalty, a special witness, that of Bjorn Magnus Jacobsen Ihler, who was on the island of Utoya in July 2011 when Breivik killed 69 young people, wounding 110. 

Ihler is opposing to the death penalty, in every situation, even after what happened to him and his friends.

Houston, United States of America - Against the death penalty ...

The Community of Sant'Egidio has organized meetings to raise awareness and discussion for the World Day against the death penalty at the Faculty of Law of the University of Houston, Texas. 

Witnesses from death row and relatives of the victims - Shujaa Graham, former sentenced to death, Bill Pelke, relative of murder victim, Terry Steinberg, mother of a sentenced man awaiting execution and Dave Atwood, founder of the Texas Coalition against the Death Penalty - met with university students, future lawyers, judges and lawmakers in a westerner country where the death penalty is still a legal option.

San Salvador, El Salvador - Children and teenagers remember William Quijano

Here some pictures of the homage made by the schools of Peace of the Community of Sant'Egidio in Bambular, San Jose de la Montaña and San Marcos, in San Salvador city, with about a hundred children and teenagers, who wanted to remember William Quijano, killed six years ago while trying to steal the youth from the mindset and allure of gangs and spread violence. 

Our friends of San Salvador write in their blog on Facebook that "the memory of William continues to motivate their lives in the Community, encouraging them to bring joy where there is sadness, solidarity where it is most needed".
Children of Salvadoran schools of Peace had prepared for the occasion several artistic contributions: recitation of poems, drawings and banners, singing and dancing.

Bujumbura, Burundi - Distribution of food aid goes on ...

In the picture the distribution of food aid by the members of the Community of Sant'Egidio in Bujumbura to the elderly who live at the Institut Sainte Élisabeth. Other food parcels were delivered to the families of children attending the School of Peace of Gikungu. 

It's important to continue to support the effort of the Community in favor of a country that is experiencing a serious security and humanitarian crisis.

Naples, Italy - Presentation in Secondigliano prison of the history of Floribert Bwana Chui

In an unusual setting, the Secondigliano prison, in the chapel, with dozens of prisoners, some of them life sentenced, was held yesterday the presentation of the book - "The price of two clean hands" - on the figure of Floribert Bwana Chui, member of the Community of Sant'Egidio, killed in Goma, Dem. Rep. of Congo, in 2007 for refusing a proposal of corruption. 

In the intervention of a lifer, S. A., the understanding that "Africa is not only calling problems, but also giving examples of humanity", the awareness that "man can be maker of history and change" even in the most locked environments, the idea that Floribert was "the friend and companion that everyone would like to have aside".

Barcelona, Spain - Friendship with the poor in St. Francis' day

Naples , Italy - Prayer in the square, sign of hope, response to violence ...

Youth for Peace of Naples chose to respond to the violence that has bloodied the streets of their cities with a stop ​​for reflection and prayer. 

A gesture of peace, a prayer in the square. A moment to stop and think. "September has already been colored with sadness for the death of some young people", they wrote on their blog, "and this can only make stronger our cry, our desire to change all that is not hope and opportunity, but pain and dead-end streets.
